Can anyone help with sewer smells coming from our shower?

I've recently noticed a sewer smell coming from our stand up shower. Our house is connected to our city's sewer system, and our house sits on a concrete slab foundation. We cover the drain when not in use, but once we have to shower, here comes that smell again. Please help!
