HUMAN DOMINIONSIM and HUMAN EXCEPTIONALISM: The cause of Earth's demise and the destruction of biodiversity?

Western culture is a culture of domination and the worship of greed. It has forgotten the interconnected nature of life and has removed the notion of the sacred as something permeating throughout nature. When we destroy other species and pristine ecosystems we are destroying a part of ourselves and cutting off our future generations from their roots, from true beauty and splendor. It isn't only that destroying the very conditions that has supported human life and the reason we were able to evolve to or current state, we are making the world intolerable to humans when we pollute the earth, seas and air. As an animal lover, I can truly say that although we have an enormous capacity for abstract thought, language and rationality; the line that separates us from the animals isn't as strong as we imagine. Animals are amazing and often superior to humans in numerous different ways. The people who can't see that haven't given animals the respect or consideration to be able to see it. The reason why we are at the top of the food chain and "superior" to the animals is because we create the list, so of course we are on top. We have also created the technology to allow us to dominate them, removing us from the web of life. We should remember that are high capacity for "rational" thought has also contributed to to the creation of enough nuclear weapons to destroy the earth many times over (if that were possible). So it works both ways. I think our values will begin to shift (they are already in many different ways) when the destruction becomes more and more apparent. I just hope that it isn't too late.
