In the movie RENT, who is Muffy?

Muffy is Benny's wife. She was once their roommate, so they expected her to be at Maureen's show, but since her dog died due to Angel's loud drumming, she couldn't be there. I'm guessing "Muffy" is just their nickname for Allison.
