Political aspects of the NFL fans?

Back in the old days, the Redskins' owner, George Preston Marshall, was the most notorious racist in the NFL and refused to sign black players even after all the other teams had started to do so. When Marshall gave up ownership of the team in 1970 or so (I can't remember exactly) that was pretty much the end of an overt political issue being connected to the NFL. Unfortunately, one of the networks has tried to bring right-wing bigot Rush Limbaugh in as a commentator and almost straight off the bat he tried to ignite controversy by politicizing the game (i.e., Donovan McNabb is overrated because he's black. In fact, McNabb's TD to INT ratio is one of the best in league history. Limbaugh's just an idiot).
